Combining ancient and modern approaches in design, the new hospital serves growing Abu Dhabi.

Al Mafraq Medical Center represents a new way of delivering healthcare in Abu Dhabi and the Middle East as a whole.  It grasps the foundation of the past yet points to a new future for the region.  This large regional hospital is needed to accommodate the expansive growth in one of the fastest growing areas in Abu Dhabi, UAE close to the Central Business District. The replacement hospital is designed with several key concepts—efficiency and flexibility within the space, expandability on the site, and sustainability in this environmentally sensitive landscape.

At the new Al Mafraq hospital we have expressed in the form of a hand the centuries-old traditions of healing with herbs and the power of touch.  The “palm” houses the clinically intensive diagnostic and treatment spaces while the “fingers” of the hand are towers which house the patient rooms.

The environment is centered on the patient experience and focuses on comfort and elegance.  The patient towers have accommodations for VIPs.  Combining outpatient and inpatient services in one facility is one of the many new standards set by this project.
